Châu Âu đang đầu tư hàng tỷ đô la cho năng lực quân sự của mình: ngoài các công ty vũ khí truyền thống, các nhà cung cấp xe hơi đang gặp khủng hoảng cũng nhảy vào giành đơn đặt hàng.

Theo René Obermann (62t), Chủ tịch Hội đồng giám sát của Airbus, công ty quốc phòng lớn thứ hai châu Âu, thì kịch bản kinh hoàng này có thể trở thành hiện thực. “Vladimir Putin đã chuyển đất nước của ông ta sang nền kinh tế chiến tranh; ông ta đang tái vũ trang ồ ạt”, Obermann gần đây đã cảnh báo trên tờ Handelsblatt. Vài ngày trước đó, Obermann nói với tạp chí quản lý Manager Magazin: “Chúng ta cần vũ khí hạt nhân chiến thuật để răn đe”.
Những kịch bản như vậy gây ra sự bất ổn cực độ trong cộng đồng người dân châu Âu. Kinh doanh vũ khí đặc biệt hấp dẫn đối với các công ty trong ngành công nghiệp xe hơi. Ngành công nghiệp này đang phải xoay sở với một phần lợi nguận giảm sút.
