Khi nói Nhà sư là người có tóc, thì có vẻ ngược đời. Bởi ai cũng biết, xưa nay các bậc tu hành đạo Phật phải cạo sạch đầu, còn người phàm phu như tôi thì luôn để tóc. Tuy nhiên “có tóc”, hay “không tóc” chỉ là hình tướng.
Câu tục ngữ “Nắm người có tóc, chứ không ai nắm người trọc đầu”, thì chữ “có tóc” và “trọc đầu” không phải nói về hình tướng, mà mang nghĩa bóng, tức “vô hình tướng”. Bởi vậy, “có tóc” hay “trọc đầu” là chỉ những cảnh huống. Khi một người ở cảnh huống này có thể trở thành “trọc đầu”, nhưng ở cảnh huống khác, vẫn hình tướng ấy, nhưng lại trở thành “có tóc”.
