At last year’s Golden Globe Awards, Meryl Streep called on viewers to stand up for a free press and support CPJ’s mission. She reiterated that support when she spoke about the importance of the 4th Estate in November during the 2017 International Press Freedom Awards.
Among the films nominated tonight is The Post, starring Streep as former CPJ board member and Burton Benjamin Memorial Award winner Katharine Graham. The movie tells the story of Graham’s role in publishing the Pentagon Papers in the Washington Post in 1971, and highlights the kinds of tough calls that journalists around the world face every day.
