Vụ việc này diễn ra chỉ 1 ngày sau sự kiện 2 nghi phạm ném chất gây nổ vào trụ sở Công an phường 12, quận Tân Bình khiến 1 viên công an bị thương và sau các cuộc bạo động ở Bình Thuận.
Mạng báo Dân Việt xác nhận “bức ảnh nói trên là có thật và xảy ra tại một cửa hàng xăng dầu trên đường Nguyễn Khoái, P.2, Q.4, TP.HCM.” Tuy nhiên, không lâu sau khi dán lên thì thông báo đã được gỡ bỏ.
Thông báo “không được bán hàng vào bình, can, chai” được ghi là theo yêu cầu của Giám đốc xí nghiệp bán lẻ xăng dầu, Công an phường 2 và UBND phường 2 (Quận 4), tuy nhiên một lãnh đạo UBND phường 2 không nêu tên phủ nhận rằng “không có văn bản chỉ đạo việc này”.
Người này cũng khẳng định đã trực tiếp liên hệ với ban giám đốc xí nghiệp bán lẻ xăng dầu quản lý cây xăng này để tìm hiểu thêm và được phó Giám đốc xí nghiệp cho biết: không có chỉ đạo nào như vậy đối với các cửa hàng bán lẻ.
