Hôm 2-6-2020, Chủ tịch UBND thành phố Hà Nội – ông Nguyễn Đức Chung phát biểu trong phiên họp cấp thị trưởng của Hội nghị thượng đỉnh toàn cầu các thành phố chống lại COVID-19 năm 2020 cho rằng:
“Tổng bí thư, Chủ tịch nước ra lời kêu gọi cả nước Việt Nam thực hiện quyết liệt công tác phòng, chống dịch COVID-19, với tư tưởng xuyên suốt ‘chống dịch như chống giặc’, hi sinh lợi ích kinh tế ngắn hạn để ̉ ̣̂ ́ ̣ ̂ ̂”.
Trước đó, ngày 27-3-2020, Thủ tướng Nguyễn Xuân Phúc nói:
“Chấp nhận thiệt hại về kinh tế để phòng chống dịch; bảo vệ tốt nhất sức khỏe, ́ ̣ ̉ ̂ ̂ ̀ ̣ ̂ ̂́ ̛̛̣, quyết tâm cao hơn nữa, nỗ lực, cố gắng hơn nữa trong thực hiện các giải pháp, nhiệm vụ phòng, chống dịch theo đúng chỉ đạo của Bộ Chính trị, Ban Bí thư Trung ương, Chính phủ, Thủ tướng Chính phủ”.
Tuy nhiên, ngày 9-1-2020, khoảng 3000 cảnh sát cơ động đã được điều đến làng Đồng Tâm theo kế hoạch trước đó của công an Hà Nội được UBND Hà Nội đồng ý chủ trương và đã được Bộ Công an phê duyệt để bảo vệ việc xây dựng hàng rào sân bay Miếu Môn và các mục tiêu trong xã.
Sự việc đã dẫn đến “3 công an bị thiêu sống” theo kết luận điều tra của công an Hà Nội và một người dân là ông Lê Đình Kình bị cảnh sát cơ động bắn chết.
