Việc phá hủy bất ngờ được tiến hành bảy năm sau khi một nơi tương tự bị đập bỏ ở thành phố Thượng Hải năm 2011.
Đây cũng là năm ông Ngải bị bắt và bị biệt giam mà không có cáo trạng, gây ra nhiều chỉ trích từ quốc tế.
Một tòa án sau đó giữ nguyên phán quyết phạt ông Ngải 2,4 triệu đôla vì tội trốn thuế.
Ông Ngải Vị Vị được coi là nghệ sĩ bất đồng chính kiến nổi bật nhất của Trung Quốc.
