Những năm 1990, phà ở đây chưa có mái che.Mỗi khi lên phà, ô tô được ưu tiên lên trước, người đi bằng các phương tiện khác lên sau.Mỗi chuyến phà Bính mất chừng 30 phút để sang bờ bên kia.Bờ sông kể từ phà Bính ra phía cửa Cấm là toàn bộ cảng Hải Phòng, với những cần cẩu đế cao do Liên Xô viện trợ.Phía bên kia sông Bính là những xóm chài của huyện Thủy Nguyên. Trên bờ, những người phơi than để bán cho dân thuyền chài.Những thuyền nhỏ này là những ngôi nhà của một gia đình sinh sống dọc theo bờ sông CấmNhững bãi bồi ven sông trước đây rất hoang vu.Trẻ em cũng chèo thuyền thành thạo từ nhỏ.Mỗi khi thuyền về, chợ cá ven sông Cấm trở nên tấp nập hơn.Trong hình là nhà máy nhiệt điện Hải Phòng, thuộc địa bàn huyện Thủy Nguyên.
