Trung Quốc vào ngày 2 tháng 3 tiếp tục lên tiếng cho rằng Hoa Kỳ vi phạm nguyên tắc một nước Trung Quốc khi Quốc hội Mỹ thông qua dự luật mang tên Du lịch Đài Loan, cho phép các viên chức Mỹ gặp gỡ những người đồng cấp trong Chính phủ Đài Bắc, và những quan chức Đài Loan có thể đến Mỹ gặp gỡ một cách thỏai mái những viên chức Mỹ ở Bộ Ngoại giao và Bộ Quốc phòng.
Hãng thông tấn nhà nước Trung Quốc, Tân Hoa Xã, trích tuyên bố như trên của phát ngôn nhân văn phòng phụ trách các vấn đề Đài Loan của Hoa Lục, ông An Phụng Sơn. Ông An cũng cảnh cáo Đài Loan là đừng dựa vào những thế lực nước ngoài mà mang vạ vào thân.
Xin nhắc lại là từ năm 1979, Hoa Kỳ chỉ chính thức công nhận một nước Trung Quốc là Trung Hoa Lục địa, nhưng những quan hệ kinh tế và quân sự với Đài Bắc vẫn được duy trì.
Trung Quốc thì coi Đài Loan là một phần lãnh thổ không thể tách rời và có thể thu hồi bằng võ lực nếu cần thiết. Vào năm 2016, Đài Loan có một vị Tổng thống mới là bà Thái Anh Văn có khuynh hướng đại diện cho những người Đài Loan muốn lãnh thổ này độc lập với Bắc Kinh.
Tờ Trung Hoa Nhật báo của Đảng Cộng sản Trung Quốc viết vào hôm thứ Sáu 2/3/2018 rằng dự luật Du lịch Đài Loan của Mỹ sẽ khuyến khích bà Thái theo đuổi mục tiêu độc lập như thế.
