Chủ sở hữu tàu Trung Quốc liên quan đến vụ đâm chìm tàu cá ở vùng Biển Đông có tranh chấp cách đây 2 tháng vừa gửi lời xin lỗi đến chủ tàu Philippines hôm thứ Tư 28/8, vài giờ trước khi Tổng thống Philippines Rodrigo Duterte đến Bắc Kinh.
Thư xin lỗi được một hiệp hội Trung Quốc gửi, thay mặt cho chủ tàu là thành viên của hiệp hội. Nhưng tên của chủ tàu không được tiết lộ trong phần được đăng lên trang Twitter của Bộ Ngoại giao Philippines.
“Chủ của tàu đánh cá Trung Quốc có liên quan, thông qua hiệp hội của chúng tôi, muốn bày tỏ lời xin lỗi chân thành đến ngư dân Philippines”, bức thư viết, trong đó cũng đưa ra đề xuất bồi thường dân sự cho những mất mát do con tàu bị chìm.
Tàu Trung Quốc bị cáo buộc là đã đâm vào một tàu đánh cá của Philippines vào ngày 9/6 tại Bãi Recto, một rạn san hô đang có tranh chấp ở Biển Đông nằm về phía tây của Philippines. Tàu Trung Quốc cũng bị cáo buộc là đã rời khỏi khu vực mà không giúp đỡ thủy thủ đoàn 22 người Philippines, sau đó họ đã được một tàu Việt Nam cứu.
Clarita Carlos, giáo sư khoa học chính trị thuộc Đại học Philippines, cho rằng lời xin lỗi từ chủ tàu là nhằm xoa dịu công chúng Philippines và tạo không khí thuận lợi cho các cuộc hội đàm giữa Tổng thống Philippines Duterte và Chủ tịch Trung Quốc Tập Cận Bình khi họ gặp nhau hôm thứ Năm 29/8.
