Thủ tướng Malaysia Mahathir Mohamad hôm thứ Sáu 4/10 nói rằng nhà lãnh đạo Hong Kong Carrie Lam nên từ chức sau nhiều tháng xảy ra các cuộc biểu tình phản đối chính quyền của bà, truyền thông Malaysia đưa tin.
Phát biểu tại một hội nghị ở Kuala Lumpur, ông Mahathir nhắc đến Bắc Kinh và nói Lam “phải tuân lời các ông chủ và đồng thời bà phải tự vấn lương tâm”, theo cổng thông tin trực tuyến MalaysiaKini.
“Tôi nghĩ điều tốt nhất là từ chức”, ông Mahathir nói.
Các cuộc biểu tình ở Hong Kong đã bắt đầu vì người dân phản đối một dự luật dẫn độ mà đã bị rút lại, sau đó các cuộc biểu tình đã tăng cường độ rõ rệt kể từ tháng 6. Hoạt động biểu tình cũng đã phát triển thành những lời kêu gọi rộng lớn hơn về dân chủ và đưa ra các yêu sách khác.
