Ứng cử viên tổng thống của Đảng Cộng hòa Donald Trump nói ông sẽ áp thêm thuế quan lên Trung Quốc nếu Trung Quốc “tiến vào Đài Loan,” báo Wall Street Journal đưa tin.
“Tôi sẽ nói: Nếu quý vị tiến vào Đài Loan, tôi rất tiếc phải làm điều này, tôi sẽ đánh thuế quý vị ở mức 150% đến 200%,” cựu Tổng thống Mỹ được dẫn lời nói trong một cuộc phỏng vấn với WSJ được đăng vào tối ngày thứ Sáu.
Khi được hỏi liệu ông có sử dụng vũ lực chống lại việc Trung Quốc phong tỏa Đài Loan hay không, ông Trump nói điều đó sẽ không xảy ra vì Chủ tịch Trung Quốc Tập Cận Bình nể ông.
“Tôi có mối quan hệ rất vững chắc với ông ấy,” ông Trump nói. “Tôi sẽ không phải dùng tới vũ lực quân sự, bởi vì ông ấy nể tôi và ông ấy biết tôi điên rồ,” ông nói trong cuộc phỏng vấn.
Trung Quốc tuyên bố Đài Loan được quản trị dân chủ là lãnh thổ của mình và chưa bao giờ từ bỏ việc sử dụng vũ lực để thu phục hòn đảo này. Đài Loan mạnh mẽ bác bỏ yêu sách chủ quyền của Trung Quốc.
Ông Trump, trong nỗ lực thuyết phục cử tri bỏ phiếu cho ông trong cuộc bầu cử vào tháng 11 này mà trong đó ông đối mặt với Phó Tổng thống Đảng Dân chủ Kamala Harris, đã nêu kế hoạch áp thuế quan toàn diện từ 10% đến 20% đối với hầu hết tất cả hàng nhập khẩu cũng như mức thuế từ 60% trở lên đối với hàng hóa từ Trung Quốc, trong các biện pháp mà ông nói sẽ thúc đẩy ngành chế tạo của Mỹ.
Trong nhiệm kì tổng thống từ đầu năm 2017 đến đầu năm 2021, nổi bật trong đối sách quyết liệt của ông Trump đối với Trung Quốc là làn sóng thuế quan khiến hai nước rơi vào chiến tranh thương mại và làm các thị trường trên toàn thế giới chao đảo.
Trong cuộc phỏng vấn với WSJ, ông Trump cũng nói về việc Nga xâm lược Ukraine, nhắc lại tuyên bố rằng nếu ông còn đương chức thì Tổng thống Nga Vladimir Putin sẽ không phát động cuộc xâm lược.
“Tôi đã nói với Putin, ‘Vladimir, chúng ta có một mối quan hệ tuyệt vời. … Vladimir, nếu ông tấn công Ukraine, tôi sẽ đập ông thật mạnh, ông thậm chí sẽ không tin điều đó. Tôi sẽ đập ông ngay giữa Moscow,'” ông Trump được dẫn lời nói khi nói về những lần tương tác trong quá khứ với ông Putin.
