Trong phần 1, tôi có nhắc tới nước Đức và bức tường Berlin, nó sụp đổ ngày 9.11.1989 cách nay 34 năm. Nước Đức thống nhất đoàn tụ một cách vĩ đại xét dưới góc độ nhân văn chứ không phải góc nhìn chiến tranh. Đem xương máu dân tộc, nhân dân nướng vào cuộc chiến tranh ý thức hệ tàn bạo, đúng nghĩa chiến tranh ủy nhiệm “ta giữ cho ai mảnh đất này”, “hãy kiêu hãnh trên tuyến đầu chống Mỹ” dưới danh nghĩa giải phóng, không có gì là vĩ đại cả, không có gì đáng ca ngợi cả (chuyện này sẽ nói sau trong một bài khác).
Lứa chúng tôi sinh ra giữa thập niên 50, khi miền Bắc chính thức xây dựng chủ nghĩa xã hội. Chủ nghĩa xã hội, về lý thuyết rất đẹp, đẹp tốt hơn bất kỳ thể chế nào. Và nó cũng đẹp trong văn nghệ, thơ ca. “Dân Liên Xô vui hát trên đồng hoa”, “Con tàu đưa tôi đến Trung Hoa/Bốn hướng mênh mông bao la trời đất/Ồ tất cả của ta đây, sướng thật”, “Em ơi Ba Lan mùa tuyết tan/Đường bạch dương sương trắng nắng tràn” “Em ạ, Cu Ba ngọt lịm đường/Mía xanh đồng bãi biếc đồi nương”, “Ngói mới trăm nơi cùng cửa sổ/Xây lên không khí những tòa gương”… tất cả được vẽ lên như cảnh thiên thai để che phủ những nghèo đói, kìm kẹp. Nó đẹp từ mồm những người lãnh đạo, từ báo chí, đài phát thanh. Nó chỉ không đẹp, thậm chí chứa đầy xấu xa tệ hại, xấu hơn tệ hơn so với xã hội trước nó, là ở thực tế. Giữa lý luận và hiện thực là vực sâu thăm thẳm. Những người sống ở miền Bắc từ thập niên 50 tới 80 biết rõ điều này.
Phe xã hội chủ nghĩa/cộng sản khi tồn tại gồm 13 nước. Bất kỳ đứa học trò nào trải qua trường phổ thông ở miền Bắc đều nhớ nằm lòng những con số, chi tiết như vậy. 13 nước ấy gồm Liên Xô, Trung Quốc, Việt Nam, Triều Tiên, Mông Cổ, Cuba, Ba Lan, Tiệp Khắc, Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, Albania, Đức. Nam Tư đã sớm rời bỏ, còn Lào mãi sau này mới bị xúi gia nhập, nên không tính. Con số 13 cực xấu, bản thân nó đã chứa đầy nguy cơ tan vỡ, chiến tranh, nội chiến, đói nghèo, lạc hậu, lại cộng thêm bản chất chủ nghĩa xã hội với những độc tài, giả dối, phản dân chủ… nữa, nên nó tồn tại được trong gần nửa thế kỷ là đã quá nhiều. Nhẽ ra nó phải bị diệt vong sớm hơn. Trong giai đoạn cuối của nó, thêm mấy anh có “tiềm năng thế mạnh” về nghèo đói, nội chiến nhảy vào khối càng làm cho nó mau chóng lăn xuống huyệt, những Angola, Congo, Afghanistan, Mozambique, Somalia, Yemen, Etiopia, Nicaragua. Điều đó càng chứng tỏ nghèo đói, chiến tranh và chủ nghĩa xã hội là một, dễ tìm tới nhau. Nếu chủ nghĩa xã hội tốt đẹp, sao không thấy trong đội ngũ nó những Thụy Điển, Đan Mạch, Singapore, Nhật Bản, Hàn Quốc, Brunei…, thậm chí Thái Lan, Mã Lai.
Khi chúng tôi, đám con em nông dân học lớp 10, thi tốt nghiệp phổ thông, ước mơ lớn nhất là được đi học nước ngoài. Dĩ nhiên trên báo đài cũng có những anh “điển hình” chỉ ao ước được ra trận, “đường ra trận mùa này đẹp lắm”. Tôi nói rằng “trên báo đài” bởi trong thực tế, các bạn cùng khóa với tôi không có anh nào ước ra trận cả, ra đi là do bắt buộc thôi. Chỗ của con nông dân là chiến trường, mặt trận, hầm hào, đánh nhau, chết chóc. Đặc quyền đi học nước ngoài dành cho con em cán bộ lãnh đạo. Sẽ có ai đó bảo nói thế không đúng, vẫn có những con em ông to bà lớn đi bộ đội, ra chiến trường, hy sinh đó sao. Đành là vậy, đâu có phủ nhận, nhưng chỉ là cực kỳ ít ỏi trong cái tỷ lệ phân chia quyền lợi.
Trong số 13 nước “thiên đường” kể trên, nếu được đi nước ngoài, người ta cũng chỉ mong được học ở Đông Đức, sau đó là Ba Lan, Tiệp Khắc, chứ không phải Liên Xô, lại càng không phải Triều Tiên, Mông Cổ, Cuba… Người Đức vốn sẵn sự thông minh, giỏi giang, lại thêm sát nách Tây Đức, nên đời sống khá nhất, sang đó thực hiện “cứu nước cứu nhà” dễ nhất. Đông Đức về mức sống đứng đầu phe chủ nghĩa xã hội, là niềm ao ước, là đỉnh của cả phe, tuy nhiên so với Tây Đức chưa là gì cả. Thực tế cho thấy dòng người chạy trốn, vượt tường, đào thoát, tìm miền đất mới chỉ có một chiều từ Đông Đức sang Tây Đức chứ không theo chiều ngược lại bao giờ. Và cũng chỉ có người từ các nước xã hội chủ nghĩa, phe thiên đường trốn sang các nước tư bản giãy chết, phe địa ngục, chứ không trốn ngược lại. Bây giờ cũng thế, con ông to bà nhớn xứ này du học và định cư ở Mỹ, Nhật… chứ có đứa nào mò sang Triều Tiên, Cuba. Đó là sự thực, phải mở to mắt ra mà nhìn, bung não ra mà nghĩ, chứ không thể lý luận suông một cách lú lẫn được.
Sự chênh lệch giàu nghèo, tốt xấu, hay dở do thể chế không chỉ bộc lộ ở hai miền nước Đức, mà những nơi khác tương tự cũng vậy. Hãy ngẫm lại hai miền Nam – Bắc Việt Nam suốt thời gian hơn 20 năm (nên bỏ ngay thứ lý sự lý luận bảo rằng miền Nam ăn viện trợ của Mỹ, bơ thừa sữa cặn, phồn vinh giả tạo), rồi Hàn Quốc – Triều Tiên từ thập niên 50 tới tận bây giờ, rồi Cuba trước và sau thời điểm 1959 cách mạng vô sản, rồi những nước đã tháo phăng cái áo chủ nghĩa xã hội lạc hậu, chật chội, từ đói nghèo vươn lên hạnh phúc như Mông Cổ, Ba Lan, Czech, Bun… để hiểu chủ nghĩa xã hội tốt hay xấu, có đáng chọn, đáng theo, đáng “kiên định” hay không. Khi chiếc áo đã rách tả tơi thì phải chấp nhận thay, ném vào sọt rác, chứ không thể chắp vá níu giữ tạm bợ, đánh lừa dân và tự lừa mình bằng chiêu trò “đổi mới”.
